Artistry in Bloom, Since 1998

It began with buckets of flowers and a trestle table in the foyer of the Dorp Street Art Gallery. Founder Hermien Coetzee — whose love of floristry was sparked as a child watching her mother, Gerda, arrange flowers for weddings in the 1970s — had seen a need for a more innovative, free-flowing approach to floral design in the Winelands.

Passers-by began referring to her work simply as “the flowers in the foyer,” and the name stuck.

Over more than twenty-five years, the studio has moved from that first foyer to two rooms beside a spice café in Church Street, to Dorp Street opposite the Moederkerk — where hundreds of brides have walked down the aisle holding one of Hermien’s signature bouquets — and finally to its forever home in the Skuinshuis on Ryneveld Street.
